Rocks in my beans

This week went by pretty fast, but there are a few funny stories to share. On Saturday I was eating dinner and I found something in my beans that definitely wasn't a bean. I found a rock in them. Luckily it was before I tried to eat it because I definitely would've destroyed my tooth. That same day one of the elders in my district, Elder Howard, got a bug bite on his finger and it swelled up so much that he couldn't get his ring off. He ended up getting his ring off when it started to shrink, but he almost had to get the ring cut off.

On Wednesday this week we had choir practice and a devotional. Even though I don't always know what I am singing in Portuguese it is nice to have that time to feel the spirit. The devotional was given by Elder Dieter F Uchtdorf and it was for all missionaries in the MTC right now. We were a little jealous that he gave it at the Provo MTC and not at the São Paulo MTC because it would have been cool to see him. It was still awesome to hear his advice to us. My favorite thing that he shared with us was the story of Oliver Granger. He was tasked with staying behind and selling all of the church's land when Joseph Smith moved them to Utah. Doctrine and Covenants section 117 verses 12-13 says, "And again, I say unto you, I remember my servant Oliver Granger; behold, verily I say unto him that his name shall be had in sacred remembrance from generation to generation, forever and ever, saith the Lord. Therefore, let him contend earnestly for the redemption of the First Presidency of my Church, saith the Lord; and when he falls he shall rise again, for his sacrifice shall be more sacred unto me than his increase, saith the Lord."

Elder Uchtdorf told us that like Oliver Granger it doesn't matter how much success we have on our missions. What matters most is the sacrifices we make. This is super comforting for me because it will help me focus on what is most important (sharing the gospel and giving the Lord my time) instead of what's not important (baptizing the most amount of people). Thanks for reading my email this week.
