Thanksgiving Week
This week was very long. It feels like forever ago that I was writing you guys last. We had interviews with our Mission President this week so I got to talk to him for a little bit. Mine was pretty quick though because I don't need much other than to be told to keep trying to speak Portuguese and learn as much as I can.
After that I got to do divisions with Elder Artigas. He is awesome. He is a Brazilian but he speaks fluent English and knows a lot of slang from the American companions. Probably more than me. We weren't able to meet with a lot of people but he helped me a lot with Portuguese and by the end of our time together I could understand almost everything he was telling me in Portuguese. We did see a super sad situation involving a few little kids. They didn't have great lives and it was very hard to see. It made me really grateful for how I was raised and how my parents treated me.
They don't celebrate Thanksgiving here so we had to celebrate in our own way. We cooked our own Churrasco and it was very good. We also got to call our families that day and it was great to see everyone at Thanksgiving dinner. I got to help teach my first English class this week. It was only a mom and her twin boys, but they were very grateful to be learning English. It hurt my head a little to flip what language I was going over the basics of but it made me realize how much weirder English is compared to Portuguese.
Today we had zone p-day. We hungout all day at a chapel and went and played beach volleyball for a couple hours. It was awesome except for the part where I forgot to put on my sunscreen and now I am sunburned.
My spiritual thought for this week is a scripture from D and C 58:4. It says, "For after much tribulation come the blessings. Wherefore the day cometh that ye shall be crowned with much glory; the hour is not yet, but is nigh at hand." This helped me this week and I know that it can help you guys. Just remember that the reason we continue on even through hardships is because we will be blessed and can become stronger afterwards.
If you have any questions or just want to talk you can email me at benson.plaster@missionary.org. I am so grateful for all of you guys. Have a great week!
